Date: 1-5 AD
Reverse: Ears of Grain
Reference: SNG Cop 21
Egyptian coins did not circulate in Judea because the Roman Empire would not let the coins they minted in Egypt to leave the area. So why then do we mention Egyptian coins?
These coins would be of the era of the Flight into Egypt by the Holy Family in the days following the birth of Jesus.
This coin shows ears of grain which is the reason that Rome is so protective of this area. Egypt is very fertile and the grain grown there was shipped immediately to Rome to be given out to the population for the making of bread.
